Renfe operates several direct AVE services daily between Sevilla-Santa Justa and Barcelona-Sants. Scheduled journey times are typically between five hours twenty-five minutes and five hours forty-five minutes depending on the train.
Vueling and Iberia run multiple daily flights with about one hour forty-five minutes in the air. Door-to-door, both cities' airports sit outside the centre, so security, baggage and surface transfers push the flight option past four hours on a good day.
The AVE gives you one seat, power and a café car from city centre to city centre. That makes sense when the journey itself is acceptable — a long lunch meeting, reading time, or a trip where Barcelona or Seville is the destination rather than a pit stop.
Fly for a same-day return, a brutal schedule, or a connection through El Prat. Otherwise the AVE is the less tiring way to do a domestic Spanish hop.
