L'orario di volo indicato salta l'aeroporto. Aggiornato July 2026.
Eurostar operates direct services from London St Pancras International to Amsterdam Centraal in about four hours on the fastest timings. Border control happens once at departure; there is no airport transfer at either end.
British Airways and KLM together operate a large number of weekly flights between London and Amsterdam with about eighty minutes in the air. That headline advantage disappears once you add the trip to Heathrow or Gatwick, security, boarding and the train or taxi from Schiphol into Amsterdam.
On this corridor the train and flight can look close on the clock when everything runs smoothly. Eurostar wins on simplicity: one seat, generous luggage treatment and arrival in the canal-ring centre rather than at an airport outside the city.
Fly if Amsterdam is a connection, or the only time that works is a flight. Otherwise book Eurostar. St Pancras to Centraal, bags with you, no Schiphol.
Treno vs aereo.
| In treno | In aereo | Nota | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Door-to-door time | ≈4h 30m door-to-door; fastest Eurostar ≈4h 04m | ≈3h 55m door-to-door Vince | Train: show up 10–15 minutes early. Flight: airport trip, security, boarding, then another trip into town. |
| Stations vs airports | London St Pancras → Amsterdam Centraal Vince | London airports → Amsterdam Schiphol | Main stations sit in town. Airports usually don't. |
| Typical one-way price | From about €55 in Standard when booked ahead Vince | Often €90–€180 before airport transfers | Planning ranges, not live quotes. Book a few weeks out; walk-up rail and last-minute flights both get expensive. |
| CO₂e per passenger | ≈9.5 kg Vince | ≈47.5 kg | About 38 kg less CO₂e on the train, using published European rail and short-haul factors. |
| Frequency | Several direct Eurostar departures/day Vince | Live schedule shown below when available | Direct Amsterdam services run through the Channel Tunnel; confirm the result is Eurostar rather than a flight-style codeshare suggestion. |
| Changes | Direct options available Vince | Airport access at both ends | Book a direct train. A change can wipe out the whole point of not flying. |
| Useful journey time | Power, table, room to move Vince | The hour in the air is sandwiched between queues | One stretch of usable time vs the airport sandwich. |
| Luggage | Bags stay with you Vince | Cabin and hold limits depend on the fare | Airlines start charging once you leave the cabin bag. Check bike and oversized rules on the train too. |

St Pancras to Centraal, both central.
St Pancras sits on the London Underground and Thameslink. Amsterdam Centraal opens onto the city centre and direct tram/metro links.
Allow time for border control at St Pancras.
Eurostar is generally reliable, but engineering weekends and late evening border queues can bite. Build a modest buffer for separate onward tickets.

"Eurostar punctuality is generally good outside major engineering weekends. Check live Eurostar information on the day."
Low to moderate; Channel Tunnel engineering and border processing are the main variables.
None on direct Eurostar services.
"Fast running through Kent and the Low Countries rather than a scenic railway — the product is speed and centre-to-centre convenience."
Eurostar sells the through journey directly. Compensation follows Eurostar's own conditions of carriage.
